Welcome To Holland Heights | Located In The Rolling Hills Above Herkimer, NY
The inspiring story of a father and son, a dairy farm, and the dream that became Holland Heights Golf Course.
In the spring of 1995, father and son, Dirk and Ronald deJong, broke ground building the front 9 holes of what would become Holland Heights Golf Course.
Golf course designer Archie “Pete” Craig was hired to draft the rough layout of the front nine on Dirk and his wife Clara’s 230-acre dairy farm. Craig brought with him a resume boasting 40 golf course designs across New York State.
Because Dirk and Clara both immigrated from the Netherlands, they decided to name the course Holland Heights and lean into a Dutch-inspired theme.
After facing major flooding from a storm in January 1997, the team pushed through and finally opened the front 9 in 1999.
In 2001, the deJongs remodeled the old cow barn into a banquet hall, allowing them to host Weddings, Graduation parties, Reunions and Large tournaments (up to 250 people)
In 2002, Dirk and Ron built what is now the Holland Heights “Pub & Pro Shop.”
By 2005, part of the old hay barn had been transformed into a simulator room, featuring two state-of-the-art Full Swing golf simulators—connected directly to the Pub & Pro Shop—giving golfers the ability to play year-round at Holland Heights.
While all these additions were being made, the deJongs were also working hard on constructing the back 9 holes.
Unfortunately, more flooding in 2013 caused serious washouts—but they didn’t give up. Finally, in 2016, the back 9—designed by Ronald deJong—officially opened.
With the addition of these holes, Holland Heights became a full 18-hole, 6700+ yard Championship Course. The layout offers:
Spectacular views
Uniquely different holes (no two are the same!)
A challenging experience from the back tees
In late 2018, Holland Heights completely upgraded both Full Swing simulators, adding:
New cameras
Screens & computers
Software & projectors
Access to 42 famous golf courses
These upgrades made an already great setup the best simulator experience in the area.
The building of Holland Heights has been an enormous undertaking—especially considering it was built by a farmer and his son using old, worn-out equipment.
Dirk fixed the equipment.
Ron moved the dirt.
It’s truly amazing what this father-son team accomplished in less than 25 years, overcoming so many obstacles, you could write a book about it.
We are incredibly proud of Holland Heights and remain committed to improving the course every single year.
Come visit Holland Heights—you won’t be disappointed!
